Tbilisi, situated on the banks of the Kura River between the magnificent Caucasus Mountains, is the capital of Georgia. Legend has it that the city was founded by King Vakhtang Gorgasala in the 5th century, and the name "Tbilisi" is derived from the Georgian word "tbili," meaning "warm." This refers to the natural hot water springs located around the city.
Tbilisi is full of interesting sights. These include the old town with its narrow and winding streets, the 13th-century Metechi church of the Georgian kings overlooking the city, the 3rd-century Nariqala fortress, and a place called Sioni, which is an important religious center. A silk road once ran through the old city. .
The surroundings of the city are surrounded by beautiful Caucasian mountains, which offer great opportunities for hiking and mountain climbing. Near the town there are also spas with thermal springs, which are known for their healing effects.
