     The town of Jilemnice is located in the Semily district. It is one of the towns in the Krkonoše Mountains, which we can call the "gateway to the Giant Mountains". Jilemnice is a natural tourist and sports center for the central part of the western Giant Mountains and the Giant Mountains.
     The city itself has a very valuable historical core,. Visitors will be particularly impressed by the typical atmosphere of the mountain town. One of the largest architectural monuments is the Jilemnice chateau, which dates from the 16th century. Another attraction of the city is the building of the Jilemnice town hall, a classicist building, which currently houses the Jilemnice Municipal Office. On the tower we find a unique repeating clock from the middle of the 19th century. Visitors to the city should definitely not miss a visit to the Krkonoše Museum or Zvědavá ulička (a collection of folk architecture).
     In summer, there are great opportunities for hiking and biking in the vicinity of Jilemnice. There is an educational trail "Jilemnice known unknown" (8 km) and a cycle route "Jilemnice cross-country" (23 km), which brings a perfect picture of the beauties and possibilities of this area.
     Jilemnice is the gateway to the western Giant Mountains and is rightly called the cradle of Czech skiing. Many important competitors came from here. The tradition of skiing in Jilemnice has been maintained to this day and is reflected in the large offer of groomed cross-country ski trails. The "Hraběnka" area offers 15 km of groomed ski trails and race tracks. Lovers of winter sports will certainly enjoy the 12.5 km long Jilemnice "Be Fit" ski hiking trail, ice rink and illuminated cross-country skiing circuit in the Hraběnka area.
     There are very good snow conditions in winter, therefore a sculpture of the snow figure of Krakonoš is made here every year on Jilemnice's Masaryk Square. The sculpture of the Krakonoš has a long tradition in Jilemnice, for the first time the image of the ruler of the mountains grew out from snow on the square in 1909. The Krakonoš, which can be up to eight meters long, has a slightly different appearance every year and enjoys great tourist interest.
