Opposite the basilica is the bell tower of St. Mark (Campanile di San Marco), which is 98.6 m high.

     Venice is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in the world. Located in northeastern Italy, they are known for their canals, historic buildings and rich culture. The most important part of Venice is the large lagoon city, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city is built on 118 islands connected by a network of canals and bridges. The most famous canal is the Grand Canal, which winds its way between historic palaces and bridges and is ridden by characteristic gondolas.

     Venice (Venezia) is located in the northeast of Italy and is the capital of the Veneto region. The historic city center of Venice is located on the islands of the Venetian Lagoon. The newer parts of the city are located on the mainland. In Venice, there are several kilometers of water canals with around 400 bridges. Houses in Venice mostly stand on oak stilts submerged in the sea.

     In the course of each year, the sea level will rise here by up to 90 cm. These days are called "acqua alta" (high water).

     Venice was once a maritime and commercial powerhouse and a center of glass-making, to this day Venice maintains great cultural, historical, social and administrative importance. There is a large port and the Marco Polo International Airport. Since 1987, Venice and the entire surrounding lagoon have been a UNESCO monument.

     The first most frequent stop in Venice is the Grand Canal, which runs four kilometers in the shape of the letter S through the ancient heart of Venice. Other visited places include: Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco), Doge's Palace, Basilica of St. Mark's, Gallerie dell'Accademia, Ponte di Rialto, Ca'd'Oro or House of Gold, Bridge of Sighs, Santa Maria della Salute.
